Welcome to Mr. Elwood's Listening course

Greetings, everyone! Welcome to Tokiwa University and to my listening class, and let's have a great term together.

Class guidelines

Mr. Elwood's comments in April of 2010:

Everyone, I am looking forward to having you in my listening classes this year. Just so we all understand well, let's review a bit:

Our vocabulary studies

A very important part of our class is improving your vocabulary, so here are some links to help you. First, you must keep a vocabulary notebook of words you hear, see, or read this year--here are the vocabulary notebook guidelines which you received in class.  Every week please add 5 useful words (not just difficult words, but words you could use).

You may also just check the lists: 1000-word level , 2000-word level, Academic Word List

Our extensive listening in class

The following links are for our story, Orphan Journey Home. Text will become available after each class, while worksheets will be available before you receive them in class.

Intro to Orphan Journey Home (worksheet)

Chapter 1: Papa's News  Chapter 1 worksheet  |  Chapter 1 text

Chapter 2: Where is Moses Going?  Chapter 2 worksheet   |  Chapter 2 text

Chapter 3: The Journey Begins   Chapter 3 worksheet  |  Chapter 3 text

Chapter 4:

From Mr. E: Hi--when you're downloading a worksheet, you might save it and then edit it if you'd like to. Feel free to change font size or move the picture to make it fit your paper well :)

These are homepages dealing with listening issues...interesting and useful.

IPA page, folks...a very cool page, good for practicing Phonetics homepage

Ted Power's English page

The top six links are very good practice. Be careful, however, because this is British English (not American English).
